What If...

The hill is still there.

I went there today,

remembering

when it was our hill.

The tall grass

gave cover to our love,

innocent though it was.

So many years have passed

since that boy and girl

felt those first tender stirrings,

vowing forever

with wildflowers and a kiss.

I don't even know you now.

The man is no longer a boy,

and I am no longer that girl.

Still, standing on our hill,

I could feel you with me

and I could not help but wonder

what if...
