She sat down on the pier,
So quiet, so very small;
She stared at the foam-capped waves
And listened to the seagull's call.
She did not frolic;
She did not play;
She had no friends
That came her way.
She sat there for the longest time,
At least an hour or two;
Rarely is there such a little girl
With nothing at all to do.
She did not make a castle,
Or squish her toes into the sand;
She just stared at the ocean blue,
Never glancing back at the land.
She seemed so lonely sitting there;
A sad look upon her face;
I could not help but wonder
What had brought her to this place.
She sat alone on the pier,
So quiet, so very small;
She stared at the foam-capped waves
And listened to the seagulls call.
